Planning permission for new sports facilities in Stowmarket including a 3G football pitch, sports pavilion, multi-use games area, sports hall and mini athletics track has been given the green light.
Full planning permission for the first two parts of the scheme, and outline permission for the third means the project can now get under way. The proposals focus on land surrounding Stowmarket High School and Chilton Fields, and follow extensive engagement with partner organisations and sports clubs. The initial work also includes an improved pitch for Stowmarket Rugby Club, active track, cricket nets and additional paths and fencing.
This project first started when I stood on the roof of the High School and started to ask how we could join assets together to create a better sports offer for families and players. Constituents had consistently lobbied me for the need to have better quality facilities for our growing town. I am glad that this administration has carried on the work of the previous Conservative administration in helping deliver more facilities for Stowmarket and its residents and I have kept a constant eye on the project to ensure that even with a change of leadership it gets delivered. To that end I would like to thank the persistence of officers at the council too, I am looking forward to seeing the Phase 1 work begin on the pitches shortly followed by the broader delivery.
