On Saturday night with excess rainfall across the constituency and bulging rivers, I asked Therese Coffey to request that we could start abstracting from the rivers. The Rat in Rattlesden in particular, needed water taking from it, but the problem was across Bury St Edmunds.
I was delighted to thank Phil Duffy, CEO of the Environment Agency yesterday for their speedy decision. This meant on Sunday that I could tell my local farmers that they could abstract the water - it was the right thing to do to take surface water away at peak flow times.
