Cancer touches all of our lives, and for many of us, we know a friend or loved one that has been affected by breast cancer. Around 55,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. I was one of those.
In my mid 40s I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The journey was tough but my friends, family and support network were out of this world. It is these similar support networks that provide advice and guidance to women tackling cancer day in, day out.
There are so many organisations that provide practical support, information and a helping hand. My experience pushed me to campaign to help other breast cancer sufferers, and eventually led me to Parliament.
My message to all women is don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid to check for any changes, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and don’t be afraid to speak to your friends and family.
This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth take time to check yourself, ‘know your boobs’ and share this message with others.
