As a result of my representations to HMRC on behalf of constituents and others affected by Apostle Accounting, I have secured a meeting in Westminster with their Director of Individuals & Small Business Compliance.
At this meeting, next week, I will press HMRC to ascertain how they are supporting constituents, and that they recognise the importance and impact this situation is having on clients of Apostle Accounting across some 68 constituencies currently.
HMRC have previously stated they “won’t be able to discuss the specific actions in respect of this agent…..” and “we won’t be able to change our position on the application of interest and the collection of the full amount that was paid out on these inappropriate repayment claims.”
I would like to see HMRC work collaboratively with those affected, given the fiduciary relationship owed by professionals to their clients and the duty of care by HMRC to avoid abuse of their own systems.
I have notified all MPs with affected constituents and invited them to participate in the meeting.
