On 22 June, Jo Churchill MP welcomed new figures showing a decline in the number of those claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance.
Mrs Churchill said: “In May 2015 629 people in Bury St Edmunds were claiming Job Seekers Allowance. That’s 147 less than last year – a decrease of nearly 20%. The figures are particularly encouraging for people aged 18-24, as the number of claimants have fallen by nearly 30% over the last year. Across the UK, the unemployment rate is just 5.5%. With only 1.1% of the working age population claiming out of work benefits in my constituency, these figures demonstrate the strength of our Suffolk economy and mean that more hard working Suffolk families can enjoy the security of a stable income.”
