The Theatre Royal in Bury, the last working Regency playhouse in the country, has launched a re-opening appeal with the target of raising £50,000.
The theatre compliments our broad tourist offer, puts a smile on peoples’ faces and does wonderful outreach and engagement work with young people and the wider community.
I am pleased that it was able to secure an Arts Council Emergency Response Grant. But re-opening a theatre is not a simple task. They need time and funding to programme and promote the season, as well as casting and rehearsing their own shows.
The Theatre Royal has been part of our community for 200 years and I know everyone involved is determined that the show will go on.
