I am thrilled to be inviting nominations from the constituency for the Parliamentary Pub Chef Awards. This is an annual competition which nominates chefs from constituencies up and down the country. The award recognises the important contribution of pub chefs to local communities. With last year's winner, Milan Hukal, from the county, I hope we can continue Suffolk's success this year.
The brewing and pub sector is a dynamic part of our local economy; providing great food to local people and our thriving tourism industry. With over two thousand local jobs reliant on pubs and breweries, it is an important source of investment and jobs.
It also forms part of our cultural heritage, with our local pubs acting as social hubs and centres of our communities for generations. That is why I feel it is important that we recognise both the social and economic contribution of the industry, to Bury St Edmunds.
With pubs in the UK serving almost one billion meals each year, it is with great pleasure that I welcome nominations for the Parliamentary Pub Chef Award. This is the chance for residents to get involved, nominate their favourite pub chef and share in the importance of the brewing industry, to our wonderful communities
The entries will be sorted into two age groups- with those under 30 being considered for the Parliamentary Young Pub Chef of the Year. Entries will be judged by an expert panel and there is a £500 reward for the winner, which will be presented in the House of Commons in early 2018.
If you would like to nominate a chef, or encourage customers to get voting, make your selection before Monday 23rd October. Names will be submitted to the competition, before the competition deadline on Friday 27th October. I look forward to your pick for Parliamentary Pub Chef Award 2017!
