On Wednesday 28th October, Jo Churchill MP jointly hosted an event in support of the Off Patent Drugs Bill as Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Breast Cancer, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Now.
The event brought attention to the Bill which was debated in the House of Commons on 6th November. This Bill intends to make drugs that have fallen out of patent, but have since proved effective for clinical use outside of their original licence, routinely available of the NHS.
Mrs Churchill MP said: “I have taken part in this debate today to raise awareness and urge the Government to consider the availability of these drugs which could deliver real benefit to hundreds of thousands of patients - not just cancer patients – all across the UK.
During the debate, I spoke of my own personal experience with cancer and why I think this Bill has the potential to deliver effective change. I was delighted to see so many fellow Members in attendance and will look forward to debating this issue again on 4th December”.
