I was delighted to attend the opening of the new Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at West Suffolk Hospital. This will support better patient flow and help identify patients who can safely be treated and return home on the same day. Ensuring we are at the cutting edge of care, reducing admissions and improving the experience of patients and staff is crucial.
This state of the art unit will ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time and in the right place. It will also support and ease pressure on the emergency department, and help our hospital respond to the increased demand we see, particularly over the winter.
It is an amazing facility and I would like to congratulate all those involved in making it happen. The design is a credit to all those who had input. I will continue to work hard to for our hospital – ensuring we have a growing hospital fit for our growing community.
